With the new movie out and the book coming out in a little over a week, I was wonder what everyone's thoughts are about Harry surviving the last book and if they've changed since the last book came out.

As I see it there are 7 possibilities.

1. Harry lives and Voldemort and another badguy dies. The traditional happy ending.
2. Harry lives, and Voldemort dies, but Harry loses a friend in the process. The victory at a cost ending.
3. Harry dies but one of his friends (Neville or Ron) kills Voldemort. This is a more classical Beowolf style ending where the hero dies, but passes the torch on to the next generation. Or it could be Harry dies and one of the cronies turns on voldemort.
4. The reverse of 3; Harry killing Voldemort and one of his cronies kills Harry.
5. Harry dies and voldemort lives. This would be the tragic ending but leaves the story open for Rowling or another author to pick up.
6. Harry and Voldemort live, two secondary characters die. This would probably be the strangest ending, that which alludes to an unending conflict between the two. For example Voldemort might almost kill Harry, but Harry because he has some of Voldemort's power would be able to come back. Or it could be something like Voldemort reforming or Harry crossing over, but I see both as unlikely.
7. Harry and Voldemort both turn their wands on each other. (End of Story). This is the Princess Bride (book) ending, better known as the Lady or the Tiger Ending.

So which is it? I'm rooting for number 1 myself. However I see 2 or 3 as the most likely possibilities as the trend for happy endings hasn't been as popular lately. It would also give a chance for underdogs like Ron or Neville to finally have their day in the sun. 7 would probably be the most interesting ending because people will always be talking about it. At the end of 6, there was a controvery about Snape being a good guy or a bad guy. That controversy will likely be put to an end in this book, but not knowing the outcome between Harry and He-Who-I-Can't-Be-Bothered-To-Remember-His-Name would also keep the fans interested for a long time thereafter.

So are there any other predictions for book 7? Like Dumbeldor coming back as a ghost? Part of me says yes he comes back and stays on as the headmaster, part of me says he stays dead because in classical literature, the hero has to figure things out for himself. He loses his father figure or mentor and learns what being a man is really about.

I'm not a big fan, but I remember hearing something like last year when she said Harry was going to die. I guess she may have changed her mind after it was all over the news...

Onarik, she didn't say Harry was going to die specifically, she said 2 major characters will die.

Yes but if harry dies people will be up in rage and say how the books sucked at that they read all 7 just to have the main character die. Basically it's a no win situation if harry dies. But who knows, she just might do it.

Which I meant that JK might write that harry dies not JK would appear in the story disenboweling harry = p!

Well it cant be 3 or 4 cause my theory involves one of them killing them both, since i think Harrys scar is a horcrux (probally will be the last horcrux) and unless Harry dies Voldemont would keep coming back. So Harry either kills himself or lets Voldemont kill him willingly. I could be way off the mark but thats my theory.

Everything has to end. Better to end on a high.

Just think about such franchises as Aliens/Rocky/Rambo etc the films got worse as they went on. Making film after film isn't always the answer.

Just think hagrid as would be interesting, as people like him, but he's not a vital char

Hmmm good theories but mine is quite diffrent. I think Sirius black didnt really die (just like luna said everything always seems to return to you in a way you didnt expect) when harry finds voldemort and destroies all his haucruxs they kill voldemort but then (forgot her name) the person who killed nevils parents and sirius appears and kills harry nevil kills her and the auras kill the death eaters. The most dramatic ending in my oppinion and would make the movie a hit along with the book. This would still follow the prophcy for one of them died (voldemort) but that doesnt make harry invincable.

the slitheren ring (already destroyed)
Tom riddles diary(already destroyed)
the griffondor sword
the ravenclaw item
Voldemort himself.

I don't think the horcrux is Harry because to my understanding, they where made by voldewart while he was still trying to gain power and on the night he killed Harry's parents, he tried to kill Harry as well, which is how he got stripped of power.

I think there will be some way to tie the fact that the prophecy could have been about Neville or Harry back in, like if Neville has a scar that nobody knows about, or if Harry's scar isn't actually from Voldemort or something like that. There has to be an odd twist, Harry won't die, I think, but there will be an odd twist to make it less predictable and not just Harry kills Voldemort... At least that's what I would have done, maybe JK has it planned to be all predictable and whatnot. Or maybe Trelawny was wrong and it's all of Harry's friends together. Trelawny might make a prediction to Luna that the whole group needs to be there and not just Harry or something of the sort. I'm just not going to be sold on the Harry kills bad guy happy ending, she already went off that path when Harry tells Ginny it's to dangerous to be together or w/e he says. I really need to brush up on my Harry Potter to see what else JK may bring in, maybe something like Aragog, or Hagrid's brother, or maybe there's an unknown twin out there... My head's hurting now, I'd better just leave it up to JK to make these decisions. I want Harry and Ginny to get back together though...

I say it's Harry and Voldemort...like Harry finds out how to destroy him for good, but it will also cost him his life and he does it anyway to save everyone (after some good soul searching and fighting the idea that he has to be the one to do it, and that his entire life has been training for his death).
